US President Donald Trump said that the American media is trying to pit him against billionaire and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk. The politician said this in a joint interview with the businessman on Fox News.

In the interview, the host touched on the topics written in influential American publications about Musk's usurpation of power and his influence on Trump.

According to the US president, the media's desire to pit him against the businessman is clearly visible. According to the politician, journalists "are doing a bad job in this regard." According to Trump, if such articles were successful, there would be no president.

"I see it all the time. Indeed, Elon called me and said, “They’re trying to split us up.” I said, “Absolutely,” Trump said.

In the interview, the US president and Musk said that the American people are smart and understand that the presidential administration and DOGE are working together to reduce unnecessary federal government spending.

Musk donated nearly $75 million to Trump’s campaign, making him one of the largest donors of the election season. He also spoke at rallies supporting the politician several times and confessed his love for him.

After Trump came to power, Musk was appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

In December 2024, The Washington Post called Musk the “secret president.” In February 2025, TIME magazine released a cover featuring Musk sitting in the US presidency.
