Donald Trump extended the sanctions against Russia for another year
US President Donald Trump has extended sanctions imposed on Russia for another year in response to Russia's annexation of Crimea and recognition of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics. This was reported in the US Federal Register.

Trump has decided to extend sanctions imposed by the US in different years - in 2014, 2018 and 2022. The document states that these restrictions "should remain in force beyond March 6, 2025."

— The actions and policies specified in these orders continue to pose a serious and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States, — the document says.

Trump said on February 25 that sanctions against Russia were not yet a topic of discussion, but that he would “consider this issue in the future.” On February 26, in an interview with reporters, he said that he was ready to lift sanctions against Russia only after the end of the Russia-Ukraine war.

It should be recalled that on February 24, the European Union agreed on another package of sanctions against Russia. According to it, restrictions were imposed on aluminum imports, 13 banks were disconnected from the SWIFT system, and sanctions were imposed on more than 70 ships belonging to the “shadow fleet.”
