Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again accused Russia of not being interested in ending the war. He said that Russian forces have carried out hundreds of attacks on Ukrainian cities, which is clear evidence that they have no intention of ending the war.
“This week, more than 1,020 attack drones, about 1,360 guided bombs and more than 10 missiles were launched at our cities. Those who want to end the war will not do this,” Zelensky wrote on social media.
The Ukrainian president called on the international community to jointly exert pressure on Russia and stressed the need to strengthen new sanctions.
“Everyone who wants peace in Ukraine, Europe, America and the whole world - together we can ensure a just and lasting peace.” – Zelensky said.
Is the Kremlin deliberately delaying peace talks?
Three days earlier, Zelensky accused Russia of deliberately delaying a proposed peace agreement initiated by the United States.
“Unfortunately, since the meeting in Jeddah, we have not received any substantive response from Russia. This once again confirms that Russia seeks to continue the war,” he said on March 13.
Zelensky also expressed hope that US pressure on Russia would be enough to end the war.
European Union to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine
The European Union does not intend to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine even during a temporary ceasefire.
On March 14, a meeting of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council was held in Brussels. At the meeting, a number of diplomats said that military assistance to Kiev should be continued to ensure that Ukraine enters peace talks in the strongest possible position.
“I don’t think we will stop supplying weapons to Kiev if the aggressor (Russia) demands a ceasefire,” said one European diplomat at a briefing in Brussels.
Another diplomat also stressed that Ukraine should not allow itself to be militarily weak during the negotiations.
Ukraine and the international community have stressed the need to increase pressure on Russia to end the war. The European Union, however, plans to continue providing military assistance to Kiev. The Kremlin has not officially responded to the peace talks, making it difficult to give a clear prognosis on when the war will end.
