
Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Hungary on a state visit, as the country recognizes the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. It had previously issued an arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister.
Photos of Netanyahu at Budapest airport were posted on Facebook by Hungarian Defense Minister Kristof Szalai-Bobrovnicki, who welcomed him on Thursday, April 3.
On November 21, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant over Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán strongly condemned the move, vowing to invite Netanyahu to Budapest and ignore the Hague's request.
On April 1, RFE/RL's Hungarian Service reported, citing Hungarian Justice Minister Benc Tuzon, that Budapest had notified foreign diplomats of its withdrawal from the ICC.
