US President Donald Trump expressed hope that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine will be signed in the coming days. He shared this statement on his social media platform Truth.
"I sincerely hope that Russia and Ukraine will reach a mutual agreement this week. After that, both countries will be able to start large-scale business with the US, contributing to their economic growth and prosperity," Trump wrote in his post.
However, Donald Trump did not clarify exactly what "agreement" he was referring to and did not provide any further details. Currently, neither Moscow nor Kyiv has officially responded to the US president’s statement.
Recall that on April 17, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that if the country does not see prospects for achieving results in negotiations for a peace agreement, it may stop its efforts in this direction within the coming days.
Notably, a few days earlier, during a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Representative Steve Witkoff, and other senior advisers, Donald Trump suggested that the US could withdraw from the peace negotiations on Ukraine if they were unsuccessful. The US president also expressed confidence that both Russia and Ukraine were interested in ending the war.
On April 17, Bloomberg reported that during a meeting in Paris, the US presented its European allies with "robust and stable peace schemes" for Ukraine. According to these proposals, Russia would retain control over certain territories already occupied in Ukraine, and in the event of a long-term peace agreement, sanctions against Russia would be gradually eased.
