As a result of the negotiations held on April 23, Ukraine agreed to the terms of the ceasefire proposed by the United States. This was announced by US President Donald Trump's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, in an interview with Fox News.
According to Kellogg, the US delegation, together with European countries and Ukrainian officials, gathered around the negotiating table and put forward 22 specific conditions for establishing peace, and the Ukrainian side accepted these conditions.
"We held an important meeting with our Ukrainian colleagues and European countries. During the negotiations, we identified 22 specific conditions, and the Ukrainian government accepted these conditions," said Trump's special representative.
As noted in the document, the agreement mainly provides for a ceasefire, while maintaining the existing line of control in the territories currently occupied by both sides. This means a temporary "freezing" of hostilities and a transition to a 30-day ceasefire regime in the near future.
Also, in the agreement, the Ukrainian government agreed to temporarily recognize the de facto Russian control over Crimea and some of the occupied territories. However, Kiev does not legally recognize these territories as part of Russia. The United States, in turn, expressed its readiness, taking into account the current situation, to recognize the Crimean peninsula as belonging to Russia de jure and some parts of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions as de facto.
"Ukrainian representatives at the talks expressed their readiness to maintain the positions they currently hold with the entry into force of the ceasefire. This issue had already been discussed at recent meetings. "They agreed to maintain the situation along the existing line of control," Kellogg explained.
While the US peace plan has not yet been officially announced, its main points have already been revealed. In particular, the plan includes the return of parts of Ukraine's Kharkiv region, the restoration of control over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the right to free navigation on the Dnieper River, and the return of control over the strategically important Kinburn Bay in the Mykolaiv region.
This agreement is considered an important step towards peace and is expected to be further discussed in the near future negotiations.
