The Irish Data Protection Commission has fined Chinese company ByteDance (owner of the TikTok platform) 530 million euros for violating European Union data protection rules, Reuters reported.
It was reported that ByteDance failed to provide sufficient evidence to limit Chinese employees' access to the personal data of users in the European Union. According to European Union law, personal data must be stored within the Union and unauthorized access from outside countries must be prevented.
In this regard, ByteDance was given a 6-month deadline to bring its data processing into line with European Union law.
In turn, ByteDance announced that it would appeal this decision. Company representatives argue that the fine did not take into account additional security measures introduced by them in 2023.
The company says that the personal data of EU users is stored only in dedicated data centers located in Europe and the United States. At the same time, ByteDance notes that it has never received an official request from the Chinese government for access to this data. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
