Jammu and Kashmir blasts: India-Pakistan firing rekindled?
On May 10, there were more horrific explosions and gunfire in Jammu and Kashmir. Air defense units in the center of the regional capital Srinagar were activated. This was reported by the head of the local government, Omar Abdullah, on his social media page.

“This is not a ceasefire. The defense forces in the center of Srinagar have just opened fire,” he wrote.

Has Pakistan violated the agreement?

According to The Indian Express, Pakistan has opened mortar and machine gun fire in several border areas. The city of Udhampur in particular is reported to have been attacked. Drones have also been seen in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Punjab.

As a result, power supply has been disrupted in the border areas of Punjab. This shows that the conflict is not only affecting the military, but also the infrastructure.

India not leaving without a response

Indian Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said that Pakistan has violated the agreement several times in recent hours.

"Our armed forces are responding befittingly to these violations. We take this very seriously and call on Pakistan to approach the situation responsibly," he said.

Misri said that the army has been instructed to take firm and responsible measures to prevent further attacks.

Trump's ceasefire - on paper, not in practice?

US President Donald Trump first announced that a ceasefire between India and Pakistan would come into effect from 5:00 p.m. on May 10. This information was later confirmed by New Delhi and Islamabad.

However, the intensity of events shows that this agreement has not yet had practical force in the region.

Jammu and Kashmir – again at the center of the conflict

The conflict will intensify on the night of May 7. In the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which is under Indian control but claimed by Pakistan, India:
  • Accused the Pakistan-based Terrorist Front (TRF), which is believed to be linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group;
  • This organization announced that it shot and killed 26 people;
  • New Delhi stated that Islamabad was directly involved in the incident, but Pakistan denied all accusations.

The Zamin.uz editorial team assesses the situation in Jammu and Kashmir as a serious threat to regional peace. In the current situation, the political will of the two states, the influence of international mediators and pressure from the world community can create the basis for the real implementation of any agreement or further escalate the conflict.
