Indian Prime Minister: "The next mistake could wipe Pakistan off the map"

Indian Prime Minister: "The next mistake could wipe Pakistan off the map"
Tensions between India and Pakistan have flared up again. On May 12, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, expressing the government's firm stance on the fight against terrorism and issuing an open ultimatum to Islamabad.

Operation Sindoor and its possible continuation

In his speech, Modi stressed that the military operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7, had only been suspended, not completed, and that India was ready to resume it at any time. He stressed that any terrorist attacks would be met with a strong response, and today's break was just a time to assess Pakistan's next steps.

"We have only temporarily suspended our response against terrorists and the military bases that support them. If there is a new attack, our response will be strong and decisive," Modi said.

Security warning

Indian Air Chief Marshal Avadesh Kumar Bharti also told a press conference that the country's military is ready to respond to any situation. He stressed that all military infrastructure is on high alert.

Negotiations only on Kashmir and terrorism

Modi made India's position clear in his address: "Any talks between India and Pakistan will be on only two issues - terrorism and Kashmir. Trade and peace cannot be carried out in parallel."

The Prime Minister accused the Pakistani government and army of supporting terrorism and warned that if they did not stop, "Pakistan's existence would be in danger."

Pakistan's response

Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in his speech, portrayed Pakistan not as a source of terrorism, but as its victim. He said Pakistan was ready to hold talks with India on three main issues: Kashmir, terrorism and water.

Pakistan criticized India's decision in 2019 to abolish the state of Jammu and Kashmir and make it a union territory, describing Kashmir as an Indian occupation.

International concerns and future threats

The United States and other international powers have urged both sides not to escalate the conflict and to seek a solution through negotiations. Given that India and Pakistan are nuclear-armed states, any military confrontation raises serious international concerns.

Zamin.uz editorial staff believes that peaceful and diplomatic solutions should prevail in this crisis and joins in calling on both sides to exercise restraint.
