The sensational statement of Pavel Zolotarev, the head of the Glushkovo district of the Kursk region of Russia, regarding Ukraine has caused serious discussions in political circles. On May 21, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zolotarev directly stated that the Sumy region, which is neighboring Russia, "should be ours."
"It is impossible to live in a peninsular way. We must be more. I believe that at least we should return Sumy," he said in a conversation with the Kremlin leadership.
President Putin responded to these words with the following words: "That is why they elected Alexander Evseevich. He also wants more," - hinting at the political aspirations of the head of the Kursk region.
After these words, the city of Sumy again came into the center of international attention. This area, located 30 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is regularly subjected to artillery and missile attacks. At the same time, according to the DeepState analytical center, the Russian army currently does not have a permanent control area in the Sumy region.
According to the latest reports, on May 20, the Ukrainian National Guard reported that six Ukrainian servicemen were killed as a result of a strike on a training ground in the Russian Sumy region. Putin, responding to this strike, noted that the Ukrainian army is actively moving towards the border.
It is no secret that anxiety in Ukraine is growing against the background of these events. Because on April 13, a rocket was fired at the center of Sumy, killing 35 people, including two children. More than 120 people were injured in this attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the strike was aimed at the meeting place of the Seversk military group.
