Almazbek Atambayev has announced his readiness for a trial before the International Court of Justice!
Former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev has denied all charges brought against him and is ready to stand trial before an international tribunal to prove his innocence. He announced this on his personal page on social networks.

According to Atambayev, the country's current President Sadyr Japarov accused him of many serious crimes, including corruption, theft and even murder. Japarov also stated that he is currently afraid of holding an open trial in the case of the former president.

After that, Almazbek Atambayev proposed holding an open trial on the charges against him and suggested that the authorities take a concrete step:

"If the government is looking for the truth and wants to establish justice, it should ratify the Rome Statute and apply to the International Court of Justice. I am personally ready to answer before this international tribunal. Even if the International Court confirms my guilt and sentences me to punishment, I am ready to sit behind bars for any length of time," the former president said.

Atambayev also appealed to the country's leadership and stressed the need to immediately release all those accused of the Koy-Tash events and held in prisons. According to him, these individuals are being held in prison without any guilt and unjustly. The former president believes that they are being punished for the truth, for dreaming of a just Kyrgyzstan.

"The processes related to the Koy-Tash events are a fabrication, and the release of the people involved would be a matter of honor for both the country's leadership and the people. The fact that they are in prison is a great shame for the state leadership," Atambayev wrote.

It should be recalled that on August 7-8, 2019, one of the most serious clashes in the country's history took place in Kyrgyzstan during attempts to forcibly arrest former President Almazbek Atambayev. Atambayev's house in the village of Koy-Tash near Bishkek was stormed by the special unit of the State Committee for National Security "Alpha". During these events, one soldier was killed and more than two hundred people were injured to varying degrees.

That day, an armed clash broke out between Atambayev's supporters and special forces. The supporters, trying to protect Atambayev, engaged in fierce battles with special forces personnel. As a result, many law enforcement officers were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Subsequently, a Bishkek court sentenced former President Almazbek Atambayev in absentia to 11 years and 6 months in prison, along with confiscation of his property. Several other high-ranking officials who were with him during the trial were also sentenced to long-term prison terms.

Today, the disputes between the country's current leadership and the former president are attracting even more public attention. Atambayev says that he is confident that justice will be done before an international tribunal and that he has decided to fight for his truth to the end. It is believed that his appeal may further aggravate the political situation in the country.

So far, government representatives have not officially responded to Atambayev's proposal for a trial before the international court. However, heated discussions have begun in political circles and the media on this matter. This indicates the beginning of a new stage in the political life of Kyrgyzstan.
