Zelensky responded sharply to Trump: "We are not children!"
US President Donald Trump's statement comparing the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine to a simple fight between two children on a playground has caused strong protests in Kiev. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted sharply and directly to these American words.

In an interview with ABC News, Zelensky called the US president's statement "a trivialization and simplification of the tragic reality."

"We are not children, and Putin is not a young boy playing on the playground. Such comparisons do not reflect the true tragedy of the conflict at all. Hundreds of people, including women and children, are dying every day in these battles," Zelensky stressed.

In his speech, the Ukrainian leader cited the pain of ordinary Ukrainians who have lost loved ones as an example of the war. According to him, such a comparison is tantamount to cheapening human life.

According to Zelensky, it is difficult for people thousands of kilometers away from the war zone, including Trump, to fully understand the true essence of the events.

“This applies not only to Trump, but also to everyone who is far from the conflict zone. They cannot feel the suffering and hardships that Ukrainians face every day,” he added.

At the same time, political analysts note that Kiev’s critical attitude towards Trump has been significantly increasing in recent times. Political scientist Sergei Markov also drew attention to the fact that Zelensky’s sharp criticism of the American leader has now taken a serious turn.

“This is not the first time that Zelensky has spoken out against Trump with such sharpness. For more than a month, he has been strongly objecting to every statement of Trump. Trump, however, is not responding to such criticism from Kiev for some reason, but rather is holding back from making an important decision,” the expert suggests.

Recall that earlier, Bloomberg reported that US President Donald Trump expressed an unusual opinion about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The White House chief of staff stressed the need to “let the two countries fight a little bit” before peace talks begin.

Explaining his view, Donald Trump said that he had used the same analogy in a recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, “when children fight, they hate each other, and if you try to separate them, they resist. Sometimes you have to let them fight a little bit before you separate them.”

Trump also likened this idea to situations in sports: “In hockey or other sports, referees allow players to fight a little bit. Because that’s how they get their anger out.”

This statement was also received differently by Russian officials. In particular, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the White House leader's views may be his personal views, but emphasized that this issue is very serious for Russia:

"For us, this is not a simple children's quarrel, this is an existential question related to national security, the future of the country and the fate of our children," he said.

Experts say that such views of Trump, in addition to causing serious discontent in Ukraine, can also damage his reputation in the international community. Therefore, in this situation, it is not unlikely that a new complication will arise in relations between the United States and Ukraine.
