Another tragic incident involving passenger rail transport in India has caused widespread discussion across the country. According to local media sources, including The Indian Express, at least six people have died and several others have been injured in various degrees after they fell off a passenger train in the state of Maharashtra.
The number of people on board the train exceeded the norm
The incident occurred on the Pushpak Express train, which was traveling from Mumbai to Lucknow, between the Diva and Kopar stations. According to witnesses and police, some passengers were forced to travel hanging from the train doors due to the overcrowding.
An official police statement noted that several passengers lost their balance during the movement of the train and fell off the doors. Although six of them were taken to the hospital, their lives could not be saved. All the dead were aged between 30 and 35. The rest of the injured are currently under medical observation.
Ministry of Railways acknowledges the problem
The Indian Ministry of Railways, commenting on the accident, attributed the problem to the country's transport infrastructure not being able to cope with the current load. It admitted that the flow of passengers is increasing every year, but the number of railways and the capacity of carriages are not increasing at the same rate, which leads to tragedies.
The ministry also announced that in order to prevent such incidents, the process of equipping some trains with automatically closing doors has begun. In particular, trains running around Mumbai will be technically upgraded first.
Criticism and touching stories on social networks
The incident has caused widespread discussion on social networks. Many citizens have expressed their critical opinions about the problems with the railway infrastructure, passenger safety and government negligence. Nevertheless, local authorities are trying to respond quickly to such tragedies.
For a country with a population of billions like India, the railway system has become not only a means of travel, but also an integral part of everyday life. Therefore, it is time to modernize the infrastructure and strengthen safety measures to protect the lives of everyone. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
