At a time when a dangerous conflict in the Middle East is escalating, US President Donald Trump has drawn public attention with his calm and composed stance. In a phone interview with Reuters, he stated that he has no concern about the possibility of a regional war breaking out after Israel's airstrikes on Iran.
Trump emphasized that he had previously tried several times to “save Iran from humiliation, destruction, and death.” According to him, the Iranian leadership has not yet lost the opportunity to reach an agreement with the US, although they are currently refusing to sit at the negotiation table.
Israel's attack – “an open secret”
According to the president, Israel's plan to carry out strikes on Iranian territory was already known to Washington officials. “It wasn’t a secret, everyone knew,” said Trump.
Meanwhile, US government officials had planned to hold the next round of negotiations with Iran on June 15 regarding the nuclear agreement, but Trump himself doubts the meeting will take place. Earlier, Iranian officials stated that they would not participate in the planned talks.
“They called me — most of them are gone”
In a separate comment to NBC News, Trump said that after the Israeli attacks, Iranian representatives tried to contact him to discuss the nuclear deal. “They called me — the ones who negotiated last time… most of them are no longer alive,” said the US president.
Fordow – the next target
It is known that on the night of June 13, Israel launched strikes on various military and nuclear facilities in Iran. During these attacks, not only senior military officials but also civilians were killed. In response, Iran launched hundreds of drones. However, all of them were intercepted before reaching Israeli airspace, with the help of the US and the UK.
Israel’s attacks did not stop — on June 13, another strike was carried out on the Fordow uranium enrichment facility in Qom province. This site is located in the mountains, approximately 80 meters deep underground, and is considered one of the most protected points of Iran’s nuclear program. Israel claims that the site was damaged, but there is no official confirmation yet.
What’s next?
The close ties between the US and Israel and Trump’s open statements indicate that the situation in the Middle East is heading in a serious and dangerous direction. How Iran will respond to these threats — remains an open question. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
