Pakistan concerned: Iran-Israel conflict turns into a border threat
The military confrontation in the Middle East is causing concern not only within the region but also in neighboring countries. In particular, the recent escalation of military conflict between Iran and Israel is being assessed as a serious threat by Pakistan’s security structures.

The Pakistani government has strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on nuclear facilities and military leaders inside Iranian territory. In return, Iran launched hundreds of rockets at Israel, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of more than a hundred people.

Against this background, Pakistani authorities temporarily closed five key border checkpoints with Iran starting June 15. This measure is being evaluated as a rapid preventive action in response to security threats.

It should be noted that at the beginning of 2024, Pakistan and Iran exchanged brief missile strikes, but the two sides later managed to restore diplomatic ties. However, the current Iran-Israel clash has once again brought border security issues to the forefront.

Specifically, concerns were raised that certain separatist groups in the Balochistan region might enter Pakistan from Iranian territory, and that extremist structures like ISIS may become active and pose a threat to national security.

Deputy Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry is calling on the international community to prevent the conflict and to push for dialogue, while Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that he met with Iran’s foreign minister, who expressed Tehran’s readiness for negotiations.

According to analysts, Pakistan does not want to be at the center of the conflict. On the contrary, it seeks to strengthen its security, preserve territorial integrity, and maintain balanced relations with Iran, the US, and international institutions.

In addition, Israel’s air dominance over Iran is also raising concerns in Islamabad. Experts believe that if Israeli military forces establish permanent control over Iran’s airspace, it could destabilize the strategic balance on Pakistan’s western borders.

As international attention on the conflict increases, Pakistan appears to be aiming not only to protect its national interests but also to play an active mediating role in maintaining stability.
