US Intelligence and IAEA: Iran Is Not Trying to Build a Nuclear Weapon
The Vice Chairman of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Mark Warner, stated that there is no concrete evidence that Iran is working on creating a nuclear weapon. According to the senator, in March, the US Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, also publicly declared that Iran was not taking any steps to produce a nuclear bomb.

“The latest intelligence received this Monday also shows that the situation has not changed,” Warner said. He also noted that making foreign policy statements via tweets is logically wrong, alluding to US President Donald Trump. The senator emphasized that, under the current conditions, US policy is absolutely unclear and confusing, and even high-ranking officials do not have a clear idea: “I am the vice chair of the Intelligence Committee, and if I don’t have precise information, what should the American people know?”, he said.

Nevertheless, Donald Trump again repeated his statement that Iran could create a nuclear weapon “within weeks.” He stressed that he has been saying for 20 years that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. However, Trump’s statements contradict the actual intelligence and conclusions of international organizations.

According to sources of ABC News and The Wall Street Journal, Trump has been presented with various scenarios for striking Iran, but so far has not given a final order. Meanwhile, the Iranian government has always denied its intention to develop nuclear weapons and considers the accusations unfounded.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also issued its conclusion: the agency’s director, Rafael Grossi, stated that at present, there is no concrete evidence that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon. However, enriching uranium up to 60% is, technically, very close to the level needed for nuclear weapons. At the same time, Grossi said that in conversations with him, Iranian officials admitted that nuclear weapons are against Islam and said that they have no plans to create such weapons.

The conclusions of the IAEA and US intelligence are significant in debates about Iran’s nuclear weapons. Although Iran has uranium enrichment technology and the necessary “puzzle pieces” for weapon production, no such actions or plans have been confirmed so far.

Thus, despite international disputes, political statements, and potential risks, key sources do not confirm that Iran is trying to create a nuclear weapon.
