Torre Pacheco rocked by violent second night
Several people were injured during a second consecutive night of anti-migrant unrest in Torre Pacheco, a town in southeastern Spain, The Guardian reported.

According to the regional newspaper La Opinión de Murcia, groups of people armed with batons roamed the streets, reportedly searching for individuals of foreign descent. The authorities confirmed that at least one person had been arrested, but the total number of injured was not disclosed.

The violence erupted after a 68-year-old local man claimed that he had been attacked in the street by three young men of North African origin. A video of the incident spread rapidly on social media, fueling outrage.

On Friday, the town hall organized what was meant to be a peaceful demonstration, but far-right participants turned it into an anti-migrant protest. A group called "Deport Them Now" posted a message on social media calling for attacks on North African individuals.

In response, the Spanish authorities issued a call for calm on Sunday in the town of 36,000 residents.

Fernando López Miras, the conservative head of the Murcian regional government, wrote on X: “Torre Pacheco must get back to normal. I understand the frustration, but nothing justifies violence.”

The town’s mayor, Pedro Angel Roca Ternel, told RTVE public television: “I call on residents to remain calm and peaceful.”

Youth minister Sira Rego, from the far-left Sumar alliance, condemned the violence on Bluesky and blamed the unrest on “ultra-right” groups.
