Australia is considering banning YouTube for children under the age of 16 to protect them from harmful content, citing Reuters.
A national survey found that 37% of minors have been exposed to inappropriate or harmful material on the platform.
The restriction is expected to come into force by December this year. If implemented, millions of teens will no longer have legal access to YouTube.
According to YouTube statistics, nearly 75% of Australian children aged 13–15 are active users of the platform. This raised significant concerns among officials.
Previously, the Australian government introduced similar restrictions for Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and Snapchat.
Experts support the move, citing its importance for children's mental health, emotional well-being, and moral development. Parents are advised to monitor their children’s online behavior closely.
