August is one of the most anticipated months for those who enjoy observing meteors. In 2025, nature will once again not disappoint space enthusiasts — the Perseid meteor shower is reaching its annual peak. This was reported by Evgeniya Kravchenko, senior researcher at the High-Energy Physics Laboratory of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, writes Pravilamag.
The Perseids are an annual phenomenon caused by Earth colliding with particles left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet. This year, the shower will last from July 17 to August 31, but its highest activity period falls between August 9 and 15.
The best time for observation is the nights from August 12 to 14. During these days, up to 100 “celestial bodies” (meteors) per hour may be visible. The most suitable observation time is around 4 a.m. To observe the meteors, you do not need a telescope or binoculars — they can be seen with the naked eye.
According to Evgeniya Kravchenko, the night of August 13 will offer another beautiful view in the hazy sky. Next to the Moon, a pale white-yellow object resembling a star will be visible to the naked eye — this is the planet Saturn. If you have binoculars, you will be able to see its rings and small moons.
Additionally, after 2:00 a.m., another fascinating scene will occur in the east — the close approach of Venus and Jupiter. According to Kravchenko, Venus will appear several times brighter than Jupiter.
