Putin and Trump chose Alaska to avoid ICC jurisdiction

According to The Washington Post, the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on U.S. territory, specifically in the state of Alaska, is not a coincidence. The main reason for this decision is that Alaska does not fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

American media report that several possible locations were considered before the meeting of the two leaders. Putin himself mentioned in his public statement that the negotiations could take place in the United Arab Emirates. The option of holding the meeting in Italy was also discussed, but it was rejected due to the risk of the Russian leader being arrested under an ICC warrant.

“The U.S. is not a party to the International Criminal Court, so a meeting in Alaska will avoid any legal issues,” WP emphasized.

In addition, the choice of Alaska is explained by its geographical proximity to Russian territory. Putin’s advisor Yuri Ushakov humorously commented: “Our delegation just needs to fly over the Bering Strait, that’s the most convenient way,” he said.

For reference, the meeting between Trump and Putin, which is being described as historic, will take place on August 15 of this year in Alaska. U.S. President Donald Trump personally announced this on his Truth Social page.

Experts and political observers are eagerly awaiting to see what issues will be discussed at this meeting and how it will impact global politics.
