UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy could face a fine for fishing without a licence, Sky News reported.
The incident took place in Kent, at the minister’s unofficial residence — the Shevening House estate, where there is a carp-filled pond. Lammy was joined by US Vice President JD Vance and his children. While the minister failed to catch any fish himself, the Vance family managed to reel in several.
Under UK law, anyone over the age of 13 must have a government-issued licence to fish for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt, or eel. Upon realising the violation, Lammy voluntarily reported the incident to the relevant authorities.
The maximum fine for unlicensed fishing in the UK is £2,500. It is not yet clear whether the minister will face formal penalties.
