The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, expressed her firm opinion regarding Russia’s recent actions and the peace negotiation process. According to her, Moscow has no intention of stopping the conflict anytime soon; instead, it is artificially prolonging negotiations to pursue its own interests.
— Putin is trying to justify himself by dragging out the negotiations. He left Anchorage without taking any commitments to stop killings and violence, — Kallas wrote on the social network X.
According to her, the United States has the ability to force Russia into real and serious dialogue. The European Union, in turn, will work together with Washington and Kyiv to ensure a stable and long-term peace. Kallas emphasized that Moscow will only stop the war when it realizes that it can no longer continue it.
She also stated that the European Union intends to increase pressure on Russia. According to her, the EU will launch a new — the 19th — sanctions package in order to continue supporting Ukraine.
In conclusion, Kallas’ statement once again reflected the West’s general stance: achieving peace requires not only negotiations but also pressure and decisive political measures. For now, Moscow seems far from changing its course.
