A book taken nearly 82 years ago has been returned to the San Antonio Public Library in Texas, Pravilamag reported.
According to records, the book “Your Child, His Family and Friends” by Francis Bruce Strain was borrowed by an 11-year-old boy in July 1943. It was supposed to be returned within 28 days.
However, shortly after, the boy’s mother took a job at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, and the family moved quickly. The book stayed with them. More than 80 years later, the grandson found it among family belongings and decided to return it to the library.
An apology letter was sent along with the book. It read: “Grandma can no longer pay the fine.” But there was no need to worry — in 2021, the San Antonio library eliminated overdue fines.
For now, the book is on display in the library lobby, and later it is planned to be handed over to a second-hand bookstore.
Interestingly, a similar incident happened in India: a man “took” 2 rupees from a temple, and 55 years later returned 10,000 rupees.
