The government of Vietnam has decided to evacuate the population in several regions of the country for safety reasons. According to official data, before the devastating typhoon “Kajiki” makes landfall on August 25, more than 586,000 people will be relocated from dangerous areas. This was reported by CNBC sources.
According to reports, “Kajiki” formed on August 20 in the sea near the Philippines, then rapidly intensified and began moving toward China and Vietnam. At present, the wind speed inside the typhoon is approaching 200 km/h. Meteorologists estimate that when it reaches the coast, it may bring 300–400 millimeters of rainfall, which will increase the risk of floods and landslides.
In addition, due to strong winds, wave heights at sea may rise to 2–4 meters. Around 60,000 small boats and ships in the region have been warned in advance of the danger.
The typhoon may cause damage not only to public safety but also to the country’s agriculture. Experts estimate that more than 300,000 hectares of rice fields and 77,000 fruit plantations may be affected.
Vietnam’s largest airlines — Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Aviation — have already been forced to cancel several flights to central cities of the country as a precautionary measure.
Officials emphasize that this may become one of the largest natural disasters observed in Vietnam in recent years. Therefore, the government is mobilizing all resources and conducting evacuation and rescue operations under strict control.
