A firm statement from the Israeli government has cooled relations between Paris and Tel Aviv.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar declared French President Emmanuel Macron a “persona non grata.” According to him, this decision was made following Macron’s “anti-Israeli actions.”
The reason was the French leader’s proposal to recognize the State of Palestine. Saar emphasized that Macron could only visit Israel if Paris abandoned this idea.
This situation sparked negative sentiment in France.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also made a sharp statement on social media:
“We strongly condemn Macron’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state near Tel Aviv after the bloody events of October 7. Such a step will encourage terrorism and risk the emergence of another regime under Iran’s influence, similar to the one in Gaza,” he said.
