South Korean Workers’ Rights Violated in the US
During an immigration raid in the US state of Georgia, more than 300 South Korean workers were detained. They had been temporarily employed in the construction of factories belonging to Hyundai and LG. According to the workers, armed officers handcuffed them and forced them onto buses.

US officials said the workers were employed with the wrong visas. However, they were later allowed to leave the country without punishment. This agreement gives them the opportunity to work in the US again in the future.

The detainees said they were kept in cold and harsh conditions. They reported that the drinking water was polluted, and many had no beds, being forced to sleep on tables. The South Korean government launched an investigation into the violation of human rights.

The incident strained relations between the US and South Korea. Recently, the Seoul government signed an agreement on major investments in the US. Some workers said that due to psychological trauma, they no longer wish to return to America.
