In the US, a severe punishment is expected for a person suspected of planning an assassination attempt on the famous conservative activist Charlie Kirk. This was announced by the country's Prosecutor General, Pamela Joe Bondi, in an interview with Fox News. According to him, the suspect is planned to be charged with first-degree murder, and there is a high probability that he will be sentenced to death under Utah state laws.
Bondy emphasized that the governor had also clearly stated his demand for the death penalty for such a grave crime. "As the governor said, they are asking for the death penalty, which is a very real issue in Utah," the Attorney General said.
The Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kashyap Patel, also commented on the incident, stating that there is a number of evidence confirming the suspect's guilt. In particular, he noted in his correspondence that he admitted his guilt and that the DNA found in the murder weapon proves this.
According to reports, the assassination attempt took place on September 10th in a university campus in Utah. Charlie Kirk was speaking to the students that day when he was hit in the neck by a bullet fired from a distance of about 800 meters. Although the ambulance took him to the hospital, he died within a few hours, despite the efforts of active doctors.
The suspect in the murder, 22-year-old student Tyler Robinson, was detained by police officers a few days later. Interestingly, the person who trapped him was his own father, who had been serving in the police for 27 years. According to reports, the attacker's actions were motivated by the political views of the deceased activist.
Currently, an investigation is underway against Tyler Robinson. If the court fully confirms the charges against him, he may be sentenced to the death penalty - the most severe punishment provided for by Utah state law.
