The Taliban movement in Afghanistan announced the release of American citizen Amir Amiri on Sunday, September 28th. The released person was handed over to Adam Beller, the US presidential representative on hostage affairs.
According to reports, at the beginning of this month, Washington representatives held talks with the Taliban regarding the possible exchange of prisoners.
There is no precise information about the circumstances under which Amiriy was captured. Sources note that it has been preserved since December 2024. After his release, Amiri went home and underwent a medical examination in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed gratitude to the Qatari government for its assistance in this process. He also recalled President Donald Trump's words: "If an American is unjustly detained abroad, we will not stop until they are returned home."
