A court decision has been announced in a high-profile criminal case in the Russian Federation. A citizen of Uzbekistan who escaped from a penal colony in the Lipetsk region and abused a police officer during his arrest was sentenced to 10 years in a maximum-security colony.
Escape history
According to the information, this person was one of six prisoners who escaped from Correctional Facility No. 2 in October 2024. Most of the fugitives are citizens of Central Asian countries, and four of them are from Uzbekistan.
The escape incident caused a great stir in the Russian media. Because the prisoners acted in an organized manner, serious questions arose about security measures in the penal system.
Capture and resistance
The detainees, who were declared wanted by the authorities, were detained in the Tambov region at the end of October 2024. Police officers recognized them based on their description and tried to stop them.
One of the fugitives - a citizen of Uzbekistan - resisted during the arrest. He used violence against a police officer, as a result of which the law enforcement officer's right arm was broken. According to the forensic medical examination, this injury was assessed as moderate bodily harm.

The Tambov Regional Prosecutor's Office reported:
"The court found the defendant guilty of committing the crime and sentenced him to 10 years in a maximum-security colony."
A citizen of Uzbekistan was brought to justice under part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of Russia ("the use of violence dangerous to life or health in the performance of official duties by a representative of the authorities").
