The ruling Taliban movement in Afghanistan has introduced new rules in the higher education system. According to the Afghanistan International publication, the country's Ministry of Higher Education has banned university teachers and lower-level administrative staff from using smartphones during their working hours.
The Ministry's documents state that the use of smartphones "complicates the work process and distracts the attention of employees." Therefore, professors, teachers, and administrative staff of colleges do not have the right to bring or use a telephone during working hours. For high-ranking employees, it is recommended to gradually reduce smartphone usage.
"Scientists should not use smartphones in their workplaces," the ministry said in an official statement.
It should be recalled that the Taliban had previously discussed the issue of abandoning smartphones. The movement's leader, Haybatullah Akhundzoda, instructed religious scholars last year to "find a way to abandon smartphones on a religious basis."
In recent days, there have been restrictions on internet services and disruptions in the operation of some television channels in Afghanistan. Since the Taliban came to power, strict restrictions have been implemented in the fields of education, information technology, and personal freedom.
