Italian pasta caused a price crisis in the US market

The Italian government is expressing serious concern due to additional anti-dumping duties imposed by the US on Italian pasta. This was announced by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Reuters reports.

The Ministry noted that as a result of the new tariffs, the price of Italian pasta in the American market is expected to almost double. This situation caused discontent in Italy not only economically, but also politically. Therefore, Rome, in cooperation with the European Commission, is now looking for ways to exert pressure on Washington.

At the same time, the Italian government believes that these US decisions could negatively impact the export potential of EU countries. The Italian diplomat called this a "silent blow to commercial relations." According to him, this decision "contradicts the principles of free trade and mutual trust."

In turn, the US Department of Commerce, explaining the reason for the new tariffs, reported that the investigation revealed that two large companies of Italian manufacturers were artificially selling their products at low prices in the US market. It was noted that anti-dumping measures have been introduced on this basis.

The new tariff will increase the price of Italian pasta by 91.74%. This could be a heavy blow not only to consumers but also to Italian manufacturers. Some experts consider this "the beginning of the economic ice between the two countries."

For now, Rome wants to resolve the issue diplomatically, but if Washington doesn't back down from its position, Italy is expected to consider retaliatory measures through the European Commission. This could lead to the start of new trade disputes in Europe.
