This year, unexpected guests - wild deer - participated in the Dublin Marathon. They attacked in the middle of the distance, blocking the athletes' path. This was reported by What's The Jam.
The race took place this Sunday in Phoenix Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe, where part of the 42 km race is traditionally held. Suddenly, a herd of deer appeared in the middle of the highway.
Fifteen of them jumped onto the track, terrifying the runners. Some cautiously slowed down, while others deviated from the road to avoid disturbing the animals. The spectators watching the marathon tried to warn the participants with loud shouts.
Eyewitness Paul Smith, who photographed the race, said: "When the runners began to approach, the herd of deer ran straight toward the road. People shouted to warn the athletes, but no one panicked. Everyone seemed to see the funny side of it."
No one was injured as a result of the unexpected collision, and the race continued without delays. Despite this, the video has already spread on social media. Users jokingly say that the Dublin Marathon has now become the "most Irish event."
