The report of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) notes that violence against women in Afghanistan has increased by 40% over the past two years. According to the data, 14.2 million women in the country - almost all of them - are in need of humanitarian aid and support.
The UNAMA report emphasizes that the violation of Afghan women's rights exposes them to daily, physical, psychological, and economic risks.
Jorjette Gagnon, a representative of the UNAMA leadership, stated:
"Violence for Afghan women is not only a visible phenomenon, but also a means of silencing them and limiting their opportunities."
The UN called on the international community to strengthen solidarity with Afghan women and increase material assistance.
For information, since the Taliban came to power in 2021, they have imposed dozens of restrictions on women and girls. Afghanistan remains the only country where girls cannot receive education after the sixth grade.
