At the beginning of December 2025, the coldest country on the planet is Russia, the Gismeteo portal reported. According to this report, the most frozen point on Earth is the Russian city of Verkhoyansk.
In Verkhoyansk, the air temperature has remained around -50°C in recent days. The air temperature here is even colder than at the Vostok station in Antarctica. In Antarctica, temperatures of -30°C were recorded. Meteorologists note that the average temperature in Verkhoyansk during November was -39°C, making the city the coldest populated area in Russia.
If we compare the coldest places in 2025, then the record temperature was recorded in Antarctica with -56.7°C. Here, in 2004, -98.6°C was defined as the lowest temperature, which was observed by some satellites.
Verkhoyansk and Oymakon in Yakutia - in some of these places, temperatures reached -67.8°C. In turn, the Canadian city of Yukon also recorded high winter temperatures.
Meteorologists indicate that this data indicates the importance of observations in the direction of modern climate change and global cold.
