The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia announced a complete ban on photo and video recording at two holy sites in Mecca and Medina - Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi. This was reported by "Arabi portal" citing the ministry's message.
According to the new rules, it is prohibited to film on mobile phones, use professional cameras, record videos, and use any type of video equipment in these holy places. According to reports, this restriction will officially come into force by the Hajj season of 2026.
According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the main reason for such a ban is certain actions of pilgrims and problems arising during busy, crowded periods inside the Haram. The filming process is causing delays during worship, disruptions in organizational activities, and violation of people's personal space.
The Ministry explained that the purpose of the restriction is to create favorable conditions for pilgrims to fully concentrate during prayer. Officials emphasized that this measure was taken against the backdrop of concerns expressed by local administrations and international delegations, with the main goal being to avoid excessive anxiety during worship and create a safer and more orderly environment for pilgrims.
It should be recalled that earlier it was announced that a "Unified portal of Hajj and Umrah" was launched in Uzbekistan, through which citizens can register for the pilgrimage online.
