The world's longest automobile tunnel opened in China

A new page has been opened in the history of transport infrastructure in northwestern China. The world's longest automobile tunnel has been officially commissioned in the country. The total length of this structure, located on the Urumqi-Uvey highway, exceeded 22 kilometers, setting a global record.

This large-scale project, called the "Tianshan Victory Tunnel," was built in the territory of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is located among the Tian Shan mountain ranges and serves as an alternative to mountain roads, which for many years were considered difficult and dangerous.

According to Xinhua news agency, as a result of the tunnel's launch, travel time in mountainous areas has sharply decreased. Previously, the distance required several hours is now covered in just 20 minutes. This creates great convenience not only for drivers, but also for the entire logistics system.

The Urumqi-Uwei highway, which crosses the Tian Shan mountains and connects the northern and southern cities of the region, is of strategic importance. This large road network includes 12 transport hubs, 17 tunnels, and hundreds of modern bridges.

Experts note that as a result of the opening of the new tunnel, the travel time from north to south has decreased from the previous 7 hours to approximately 3 hours. This will contribute to the further intensification of trade, tourism, and economic ties in the region.

Thus, the Tian Shan Victory Tunnel is recognized not only as an engineering achievement, but also as an important symbol of China's modern transport potential and infrastructure development.
