UNICEF and WHO approve new child and adolescent health strategy for 2026–2030

Children and'smirlar salomatligi bo'yicha yangi strategiya UNICEF va JSST 2026–2030 yillar rejasini tasdiqladi

UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) have adopted a joint strategy on the health and well-being of children and adolescents for 2026–2030. The program covers Europe and Central Asia, with a special focus on low- and middle-income countries where healthcare services remain limited. This was reported by podrobno.uz reports .

Unlike previous approaches, the new document does not stop at recording outcomes: it prioritizes systematically identifying the factors driving the deterioration of children’s health and addressing them.

The strategy emphasizes that the shortage of specialists responsible for children’s health at the primary healthcare level is a global problem. Estimates suggest that by 2030 the shortfall of healthcare workers could exceed 18 million people.

The document identifies aggressive marketing as a distinct risk factor for children’s health, nutrition, and behavior. It also provides recommendations on regulating advertising of harmful products.

In addition, priority tasks have been set to protect boys and girls from the impact of harmful content.

Within the strategy’s five focus areas, plans include strengthening mental health services, developing rehabilitation, improving healthy nutrition and preventing obesity, expanding vaccination coverage and access to quality healthcare, and reinforcing measures to prevent violence.

The program also envisions promoting healthy lifestyles in schools and strengthening the role of nurses, psychologists, and counselors. It is also planned to add practical health skills and digital safety topics to curricula.

Earlier, Uzbekistan’s Institute for Family and Gender reported that child mortality indicators in the country have declined.
