Will the TikTok ban be lifted in Kyrgyzstan now?

In Kyrgyzstan, it was proposed to reconsider the decision to block TikTok on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Deputy Minister of Culture of Kyrgyzstan Marat Tagayev said at a ministerial meeting that it is necessary to return to this issue.

According to him, the Center for Monitoring and Study of the Information Environment has been liquidated, and now there is practically no separate body that works systematically with platforms and social networks. For this reason, the ministry is asking to consider the proposal to lift the lockdown.

Takagayev also pointed out another important point: although TikTok is officially restricted, citizens, especially young people, continue to use it via VPN. That is, "there is a ban" doesn't mean "doesn't work," it's just becoming more difficult for ordinary people.

Recall that various sources wrote that access to TikTok was restricted by Bishkek in April 2024, in particular from April 18; it was said that the decision was made by instructions sent to telecom operators. So far, it's about the proposal: there is no official announcement about the final decision on cancellation.
