Poland plans to expand its army to 500,000 troops within the next few years. This was announced by the country's Defense Minister, Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamish, during an annual meeting with the generals, TVP Info reports.
The Minister emphasized that the formation of a half-million-strong army is a strategic task for several years. This goal will be implemented in stages.
According to Kosinyak-Kamish, over the next year, the main focus will be on the formation of reserve forces with combat readiness. For this purpose, military departments will be restored in some civilian universities, and a general military training program will be introduced.
Currently, 218 thousand soldiers and officers serve in the Armed Forces of Poland. According to this indicator, the country ranks third in NATO after the USA and Turkey.
