Two people killed in drone attacks in Oman and Saudi Arabia

A series of drone attacks across the Gulf region has resulted in fatalities and widespread security alerts. On March 23, 2026, authorities in Oman reported that two foreign nationals were killed after a drone struck the al-Awahi Industrial Area in the Sohar province. A second drone landed in an open area nearby, causing no further casualties. This incident follows a separate strike on fuel tanks at the Salalah port earlier in the week, though officials confirmed that oil supply operations remain unaffected. Reports Aljazeera.com.
Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia faced a wave of aerial threats. The Saudi Ministry of Defence announced that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed multiple hostile drones targeting the capital, Riyadh, including its Diplomatic Quarter. In total, officials reported that over 20 drones were neutralized across various regions, including the central and eastern provinces. Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates, debris from an intercepted drone fell onto a building in Dubai, though no injuries were reported.
These coordinated attacks occur amidst heightened regional instability following the escalation of conflict between Iran and the coalition led by the United States and Israel. Since the onset of hostilities on February 28, Tehran has launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, targeting nations that host foreign military assets. The ongoing violence has led to significant casualties and widespread disruption, with Lebanon also reporting heavy bombardment and rising death tolls as the regional crisis continues to unfold.
