Iran collects fees from transit vessels in the Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian government has begun collecting unofficial fees from ships carrying out maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Investing reported this move, citing Bloomberg.
Sources indicate that a fee of approximately US$2 million is required per ship. This is essentially like an unofficial fee for using transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, the payment mechanism and currency are unclear, and the system does not work officially.
According to the interlocutors, the payment is made without public announcement. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not officially commented on this information.
Some sources say that Tehran is considering formalizing such payments within the framework of a large-scale diplomatic agreement to resolve the conflict.
However, for the Gulf states, this measure will not be accepted, even if it is unofficial. They consider this a threat to their sovereignty, a dangerous precedent, and abuse of control over energy export routes.
Since the beginning of the conflict in the region, only a small number of ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz, most of which are said to be associated with Iran.
