Trump and Iran: Complex Truce and Escalating Attacks at Sea

Tensions in the Middle East have entered a new phase. Relations between the United States and Iran are becoming increasingly complex against the backdrop of both diplomatic negotiations and maritime clashes. Zamin.uz analyzes the development of events and the conflicting statements emanating from the White House and Tehran.
A Truce or a Strategic Maneuver?
U.S. President Donald Trump announced his decision to extend the temporary truce with Iran until peace negotiations are concluded. However, Tehran views this move as a "political game" aimed at buying time for Washington to prepare for new military strikes.
Nevertheless, reports from Islamabad offer a glimmer of hope: mediation efforts by Pakistan suggest that negotiations could resume within the next 36 to 72 hours. Trump himself commented briefly on the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough, stating, "It's possible!"
Maritime Blockade and Economic Pressure
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that the United States is satisfied with the maritime blockade, which has effectively halted Iranian oil exports. Despite the declared truce, Washington does not intend to ease economic pressure on Tehran.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called these U.S. actions "hypocrisy." According to him, the blockade of ports and persistent threats remain the primary obstacles to genuine dialogue.
Cancellation of Executions: Trump's "Request"
The internal situation in Iran remains highly tense. Fearing new waves of protests amid economic hardships and censorship, the Tehran regime has been taking harsh measures against demonstrators. However, in a surprise development, Trump shared positive news on Truth Social: at his request, the Iranian leadership pardoned eight women sentenced to death. Four of them are expected to be released immediately.
"Tanker War" in the Strait of Hormuz
While diplomatic efforts continue, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has escalated. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked three cargo vessels, including tankers belonging to Greek and UAE companies.
The vessels Epaminondas and MSC Francesca were diverted toward the Iranian coast;
The vessel Euphoria was attacked but did not sustain serious damage.
Intriguingly, the White House stated that it does not consider the seizure of these ships to be in violation of the ceasefire regime. This highlights the fragile and ambiguous nature of the "truce" in the region.
Dear readers, do you believe this "complex game" between Trump and Tehran will lead to lasting peace, or is it merely the calm before the storm? How will the attacks at sea affect the negotiations?
