Questions mount over health and potential injury of Mojtaba Khamenei

Reports are circulating that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was seriously injured in an airstrike on his residence in Tehran on February 28. According to reports, the attack was carried out by Israel, an event that has further escalated regional tensions.
The New York Times, citing high-ranking sources in Iran, reports that Khamenei sustained severe burns to his face, a condition that is affecting his ability to speak freely. Consequently, it is said that he may require plastic surgery in the coming days.
According to reports, he has undergone several surgeries on one of his legs—at least three—since the end of February. While doctors are working to stabilize his condition, the possibility that he may require a prosthetic leg in the future is not being ruled out. It was also noted that he recently underwent surgery on his arm as well.
Despite these injuries, sources indicate that Khamenei remains conscious and maintains control over the situation. However, he has delegated the authority to make certain strategic decisions to military leaders and generals. This suggests a temporary internal redistribution of power within the country's leadership.
Notably, the Supreme Leader is currently unwilling to address the public via audio or video messages. His desire to avoid "appearing weak or frail" is cited as the reason for this. Since assuming office on March 8, he has largely limited his communications to written statements distributed through the media.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it would take some time before Khamenei makes a public appearance. This indicates that a full recovery of his health will still require time.
International reactions continue to surface as well. In particular, Donald Trump has expressed skepticism regarding whether the Iranian leader is still alive. Such comments have further fueled various speculations and debates in the information space.
It is worth noting that prior to Mojtaba Khamenei assuming office, his father Ali Khamenei served as Iran's Supreme Leader. It was previously reported that the elder Khamenei was killed in the same attack that occurred on February 28.
While official information remains limited, the situation surrounding the Iranian leadership is generating significant interest in the international political arena. New details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
