It has been reported that more than 100 Uzbek citizens working in Russia have found themselves in a dire situation. The Migration Agency issued an official statement revealing that they were left without wages for nearly four months and were not even provided with food.
According to preliminary data, the accumulated debt owed by the employer reached 24 million rubles (approximately 324,000 US dollars). Some workers fell into illegal status due to documentation issues, which subsequently forced them to appeal to official authorities.
To clarify the situation and provide legal assistance, the agency's representative office in Russia engaged lawyers. Simultaneously, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan intervened through diplomatic channels by sending an official note to the relevant organizations.
As a result of these efforts, it was announced that a criminal case has been initiated against the employers under the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This indicates that a serious legal assessment has been given to the situation.
To date, 9,403,000 rubles of the workers' wages have been recovered. Plans are in place to fully cover the remaining debt by May 15. Additionally, their food supply has been restored.
The agency further informed that work has begun to repatriate citizens who fell into illegal status. It was noted that necessary financial assistance is also being allocated to them.
In short, the complex situation that arose is being resolved step by step. Most importantly, the rights of the labor migrants are being restored, and practical assistance is being provided to them.
