Serbia revokes citizenship granted to Ramzan Qodirov's nephew

The Serbian government has officially revoked a previously adopted decision to grant citizenship to Yakub Zakriyev, the nephew of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. This was reported by Nedeljnik.
According to the publication, the relevant document assessed Zakriyev as an individual who "could pose a potential threat to the life and health of citizens, as well as to public safety." On this basis, the previous decision was reviewed and revoked.
It is worth noting that on April 25, reports surfaced that the Serbian government had approved granting citizenship to Zakriyev. At that time, the decision was based on a special legal provision allowing for the simplified naturalization of foreign citizens deemed "significant" for the interests of the state.
Yakub Zakriyev's professional career is also quite extensive. Over the years, he has held responsible positions within the Chechen government system, including head of the government affairs department, first deputy minister of finance, and head of the governor's secretariat.
Additionally, he served as the mayor of Grozny from July 2018 to February 2020. He later served as the head of the administration of the Chechen government. Since July 2023, he has been appointed as the CEO of Danone Russia.
According to experts, this decision by the Serbian government is seen as a step aimed at a serious approach to security issues and maintaining foreign policy balance.
In short, a previously positive decision was reviewed and revoked within a short period. This once again demonstrated the high priority given to security matters in European countries.
