Hantavirus outbreak on cruise ship leads to several casualties

A dangerous hantavirus infection has broken out on a cruise ship sailing in the Atlantic Ocean. This was reported by the AFP agency, citing data from the World Health Organization.
According to the WHO, one case of hantavirus infection has been officially confirmed through laboratory testing, while five other passengers are suspected of having contracted the virus. Regrettably, three of the six victims have died, and one patient remains in critical condition in intensive care.
According to information provided by the agency, the victims include a married couple from the Netherlands. This situation has caused significant concern among the international community.
The vessel in question is the MV Hondius. It departed from Argentina and was en route to Cape Verde. The ship has a capacity of approximately 240 passengers.
Experts note that hantavirus is typically transmitted through rodents or by inhaling dust contaminated with their waste. In rare cases, the infection can also be transmitted from person to person. The disease initially presents with flu-like symptoms, including fever, fatigue, and muscle aches.
In short, this incident serves as another reminder of the critical importance of strictly adhering to sanitation and hygiene requirements in enclosed environments.
