Military operation against Iran has cost the US $29 billion

The United States' military operations directed at Iran are becoming increasingly costly for the national treasury. The Pentagon's Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Secretary of Defense, Jules Hurst disclosed new information regarding the financial and human scale of this campaign during hearings held in Congress.

Where are the billions going?

Hurst stated that, to date, the funds spent on operations $29 billion amount to. The distribution of this massive sum is as follows:

  • $24 billion: Directly allocated to the supply of weapons, missiles, ammunition, and the purchase of combat equipment, as well as maintaining combat readiness.

  • The remainder: Mobilized for repairing military equipment, upgrading obsolete hardware, and covering daily operational expenses.

“Our financial management office and Joint Chiefs of Staff experts are constantly analyzing and revising these figures,” Jules Hurst said in his speech.

Sharp rise in costs

Notably, the growth rate of military spending is extremely high. Just two weeks ago, on April 29, the Pentagon estimated the costs at $25 billion . This means that in less than 14 days, military operations have become $4 billion more expensive.

High-ranking officials such as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and General Dan Kane also participated in these important hearings in Congress.

Human losses: Casualties and wounded

In addition to financial costs, losses during the campaign were also reported. According to reports from April, since the start of military operations against Iran:

  • 13 American service members have been killed;

  • 365 soldiers have sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The distribution of the wounded by branch of service is reflected in the following table:

Branch of Service

Number of Wounded

Army

247 people

Navy

63 people

Air Force

36 people

Marines

19 people

These figures indicate that for Washington, this military campaign is becoming a heavy burden not only economically but also socially. Currently, Pentagon and Congressional representatives are continuing discussions regarding future costs and the effectiveness of operations.

In your opinion, how will such a rapid increase in military spending affect the US domestic economy?
