Japan Preserves 400-Year-Old Spider Fighting Tradition (Video)

In Japan, a spider fighting competition with a history of over 400 years continues to be held to this day. According to legend, in the late 16th century, samurai established this tradition to boost combat spirit and as a form of entertainment.

To prepare for the competition, participants catch female spiders and care for them specially. Although the spiders are venomous, their venom does not pose a serious threat to humans.
