At an event in Belgium where the new bZ4X, C-HR+, and Lexus RZ debuted, Toyota presented a teaser showing the silhouette of a new pickup truck. It is surrounded by two other models, one of which might be the three-row electric SUV delayed until 2026. The pickup is not expected to be related to the upcoming electric Hilux.
Toyota plans to introduce six new electric vehicles in Europe by 2026.
The teaser shows a double-cab pickup, distinguishing it from the electric Hilux prototype unveiled in 2023. This Hilux will be produced in Thailand, where fuel-powered pickups account for half of Toyota’s sales. The silhouette also differs from the electric Hilux currently being tested in Australia.
However, the pickup’s profile closely resembles the 2023 Toyota EPU Concept, a mid-size electric truck similar in size to the Ford Maverick. The concept features a transformable tailgate to extend the cargo area and a unique cabin design with a deeply recessed dashboard.
Toyota is expected to launch this model in 2027. In 2023, rumors suggested that Toyota might turn the Corolla into a pickup truck. It would be positioned below the Hilux and compete with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.
