The Chinese company Yangwang set a new speed record for its U9 hypercar, reaching 472.41 km/h. This car has set a new standard for maximum speed among production electric cars. This was reported by Top Gear.
The record was set on the high-speed test track at Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany. The U9 Track Edition version, with a maximum power of 3000 horsepower, was used to create this car. After Yangwang announced the record, this event once again demonstrated the development of electric vehicle technology.
However, independent experts emphasize that this record is not absolute among electric vehicles. The previous record was set by the experimental Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3, which reached 549.4 km/h, but that car was designed only for special racing events. The new record belongs to traditional production electric cars, making Yangwang's success even more impressive.
In the future, a more powerful version of the Yangwang U9 model may be released, which will enable even higher speeds.
Yangwang is a division of the Chinese giant BYD Auto, specializing in the production of hybrid and fully electric vehicles. The first U8 model was introduced at the Guangzhou Auto Show in January 2023.
This new record demonstrates the rapidly developing technologies of the Yangwang brand and its competitiveness.
